Trillion Labs, a new AI laboratory based in South Korea, was founded in 2024 by Jay Shin, a former research scientist at Naver. The company developed and open-sourced the Tri series of language models, ranging from 0.5 to 70 billion parameters under the Apache 2.0 license, along with intermediate training checkpoints for the 70B model, a global first at that scale. The Tri-21B model, released in July 2025, reportedly cut training costs to one-twelfth of previous methodologies using techniques such as XLDA. Trillion Labs secured approximately 4 to 6 million dollars in seed funding from investors including Kakao Ventures and Strong Ventures, and announced in June 2026 a partnership with NVIDIA to develop industrial world models for AI data centers and power infrastructure.
