Trezor Issues Safe 5 Warning as Hardware Implant Raises Security Concerns

Trezor has urged customers who bought a Safe 5 or other hardware wallet through Indonesian reseller CryptoBilis since March 2026 to transfer their cryptocurrency to a newly generated wallet. The company received a disclosure on October 28 alleging that an additional circuit board with a cellular module and antenna was installed in the device to capture the recovery phrase and transmit it over a mobile network. Trezor has not yet physically examined the reported wallet but considers the disclosure credible and is offering replacement devices to customers who contact its support team. Four other devices returned through CryptoBilis were inspected with no evidence of tampering found, and no customer fund losses have been reported in connection with the incident.
