Gravity Team CEO Mārtiņš Beņķītis says continuous trading of tokenized stocks is not enough to create sufficiently liquid markets. Liquidity providers must commit capital to absorb orders during weekends and overnight sessions, when underlying shares cannot always be bought or sold to hedge their exposure. According to an October International Monetary Fund report, tokenized stocks remain significantly less liquid than traditional stocks and exhibit approximately 1.5 times their realized volatility. Reliable creation and redemption mechanisms, supported by funded capacity, predictable settlement arrangements and access to underlying securities, are therefore essential. These challenges come on top of objections from 38 listed companies, including Walmart, Eli Lilly, Carnival, Arcos Dorados and Cigna, to the proposed OKXICE venue.
