Major South Korean crypto exchanges are pushing for another delay of the 22% tax on crypto profits, seeking to push it back from 2027 to 2029. They cite insufficient infrastructure preparation and the lack of finalized standards for different transaction types. A survey of 30 industry experts shows 93.3% want the postponement and 86.7% believe trading volumes will decline if the tax is implemented as planned. The government is set to meet exchange executives to discuss the proposal, which could align with the OECD’s Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF) implementation expected in 2027. South Korea remains a major crypto market in Asia, with average daily trading volume of 597.8 billion won ($406.5 million) in July 2026, dominated by Upbit and Bithumb.
