THORChain node operators on Saturday halted swaps involving assets on ten networks, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and Tron, while trading continued on Avalanche, Base and XRP. The incident began at 11:34 UTC when an Ethereum block reorganization removed a 10 ETH deposit that THORChain had already credited. When the swap failed to meet its price limit, the protocol refunded a sender using funds the vault had never received, resulting in an extra 10 ETH payout that triggered an automatic pause. According to Chainalysis, the disruption delayed the laundering of part of the $6.3 billion stolen from Binance by North Korean hackers. The FBI also urged crypto infrastructure providers to block transactions linked to addresses used to launder the stolen funds.
