A viral essay titled « The 2028 Global Intelligence Crisis, » co-authored by James Van Geelen of Citrini Research and AI entrepreneur Alap Shah, describes a « Ghost GDP » scenario in which real wage growth collapses as white-collar workers lose jobs while compute owners see their wealth explode, producing output that appears in national accounts but never circulates through the real economy. Some CEOs are pushing back: Cognizant plans to hire 25,000 junior workers this year, a 20% increase, while IBM is tripling its entry-level positions for Gen Z. IBM shares lost 13% of their value after Anthropic announced that its Claude Code tool can modernize Cobol programming.
