The ugly math on interest expenses, yields and the $40 trillion U.S. national debt

The U.S. national debt stands at approximately $40 trillion, and interest payments are beginning to snowball exponentially. Long-dated U.S. Treasury yields remain near their highest levels since 2007. This situation is making borrowing progressively more costly for the federal government, businesses, and households. Joe Boyle, fixed-income investment specialist at Hartford Funds, stated that interest payments are starting to spiral out of control.
