Gabriel Perez, a White House teleprompter operator, was ordered by the CFTC to pay 172,539 dollars for using confidential presidential speeches to bet on the Kalshi prediction market platform. Between December 2025 and February 2026, he pocketed 107,539 dollars by wagering on the exact words Donald Trump would say before the president even spoke. It was Kalshi’s own surveillance algorithm that detected his atypical positions, froze his account containing over 90,000 dollars and referred the case to the regulator. The White House only banned the use of non-public information on prediction markets on March 24, by which time Perez had already completed most of his bets. In addition to restitution and the fine, he received a three-year trading ban on any platform registered with the CFTC.
