Tether quietly became a $1.5B lender to US gold dealer

Tether provided approximately $1.5 billion in financing to Gold.com, a US precious-metals dealer, representing most of the company’s outstanding precious-metal lease agreements. This operation, revealed by Bloomberg, shows that Tether is diversifying its activities beyond issuing its USDT stablecoin. Gold.com owed approximately $1.45 billion to Tether through payables and advances. The financing arrangement enables Gold.com to acquire precious metals without paying the full cost immediately, using them for trading and retail operations before settling its debt. This relationship increases Tether’s exposure to a single company and the precious-metals sector.
