Teleprompter Operator Accused in Kalshi Betting Case Is No Longer a Federal Employee

Gabriel Perez, a White House teleprompter operator, is no longer employed by the federal government after being placed on unpaid leave for allegedly using insider knowledge to bet on President Trump’s speeches through the Kalshi platform. Reports indicate he made over $100,000 from these bets based on advance knowledge of the president’s major speech content, including the State of the Union address. Kalshi’s surveillance team detected the trades, investigated them, and referred the matter to the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Meanwhile, a federal judge temporarily blocked a Minnesota law that would have banned prediction markets in the state, giving a temporary victory to Kalshi, Polymarket, and the CFTC.
