France ranks 38th and last in the Tax Foundation’s 2026 fiscal competitiveness index, with 45.7 points out of 100, behind Colombia and Italy. Its corporate tax rate reaches 36.1%, the highest in the OECD, while the tax burden on labor stands at 47%; it nevertheless ranks 13th on international tax rules. Since January 1, 2026, crypto capital gains have been subject to a flat 31.4% tax, with no exemption based on holding period. An amendment adopted by one vote would eliminate the tax deferral for conversions from ether to USDC as of 2027, even without proceeds being paid into a bank account; two other proposals concern crypto holdings exceeding 800,000 euros and the reporting of self-hosted wallets exceeding 100,000 euros. These measures still face a final vote on November 3, following the end of budget debates on November 2, after the revenue section of the budget was rejected last year by 404 votes to 1.
