Tanker attacks in Strait of Hormuz surge to wartime high as Iran tries to choke off oil exports

Eleven tankers were attacked during the week ending October 4 in the Strait of Hormuz, the highest number of strikes since the war began in late February, according to the International Maritime Organization (IMO). At least 24 sailors have died and some 100 commercial ships have been targeted since the conflict started. Oil flows through the strait reached 20 million barrels on Wednesday, but exports remain 40% below prewar levels. Iran has not loaded crude oil for export since late August due to the U.S. naval blockade, according to Kpler.
