Tanker attack tests Trump’s claim that Hormuz is a ‘functioning strait’

An oil tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the UKMTO agency. The incident, which occurred Tuesday off the Omani coast, caused a fire that was extinguished, with all crew members reported safe. Shipping traffic through the strait has significantly declined, with only five ships crossing on Tuesday compared to more than 130 per day before the war. U.S. allies have cast doubt on President Trump’s claims that the strait has been fully cleared of mines and is functioning normally, while Iran refuses a full reopening until the United States fulfills its commitments under the interim peace deal signed in June.
