Magnus Ahmad, a former cryptocurrency executive, lost approximately $14,000 after his unlocked iPhone was stolen in London. The thieves accessed his MetaMask, Phantom and Bybit wallets before completing six unauthorized card transactions, including more than $2,000 in purchases at Costcutter. They also used his eToro account to open leveraged positions representing nearly $44,000 in exposure, resulting in additional trading losses and costs. Ahmad says securing his accounts immediately would have been more useful than chasing the thief.
