StarkWare, in partnership with Yukon Research and Eigen Labs, launched the Quantum-Safe Bitcoin Autoresearch Challenge on September 16. This competition aims to optimize the code for quantum-resistant Bitcoin transactions, with a total prize pool exceeding $20,000. An amount of $2,000 is already available during the first week to incentivize early participants. The challenge focuses on computational bottlenecks related to transaction pinning and subset selection, which currently make these transactions expensive. A proof of concept was successfully executed on August 26: a QSB transaction was mined on the Bitcoin mainnet at block 964,199, at a cost of approximately $320 in GPU resources, requiring around 3,100 GPU-hours of computation.
