G20 finance ministers and central bank governors, meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, committed to establishing « clear pathways » for digital asset innovation, recognizing it could support broadly shared economic growth. The Financial Stability Board must deliver conclusions on the cross-border implications of global stablecoins and the quality of available market data, now estimated at several hundred billion dollars. The G20 also asks members to expand operating hours of wholesale payment systems, pitting the night and weekend closures of RTGS against the always-on availability of stablecoin transfers. Several members already have their regulatory frameworks in place: the GENIUS Act in the United States since July 2025, MiCA in the European Union, and JPYC in Japan since autumn 2025.
