Sovereign wealth funds want Perplexity’s AI on their own hardware, with no data access for Perplexity

Sovereign wealth funds have asked Perplexity to run its Computer AI platform on their own hardware, gaining full control over their data and blocking Perplexity from accessing it. The company has agreed to this complete isolation requirement by using open-weight models that can run without calling home, forgoing usage telemetry in the process. Perplexity launched its Portable Computer in August 2026 running on Nvidia DGX Spark hardware, and established strategic partnerships with Nvidia starting in June 2025 to serve government and enterprise clients. The funds involved and the financial terms of the agreements have not been publicly disclosed. This model represents a trade-off for Perplexity, which loses all visibility into the performance of its systems and how its most demanding clients actually use them.
