Seoul Metropolitan Police arrested seven people accused of hacking about 90 South Korean organizations and stealing 8.2 million personal records. The alleged ringleader, a self-taught former penetration tester, reportedly carried out 60 intrusions in 44 days using an AI coding agent and an autonomous penetration-testing system. His victims included hospitals, universities, private academies, golf clubs and subsidiaries of major conglomerates. The group sent ransom demands to 38 organizations, seeking 360 million won in total, although only one payment of 300,000 won, worth about 210 dollars, was confirmed. The stolen data can fuel personalized phishing campaigns targeting cryptocurrency holders, while police say they recovered all the stolen files.
