South Korea has eliminated Motif Technologies, a startup of approximately 30 employees, from its sovereign AI competition called « Dokpamo ». The company, which proposed a 314-billion-parameter model with a mixture-of-experts architecture, failed to meet new evaluation criteria favoring industrial applicability and public usability over raw benchmarks. Only three competitors remain: LG AI Research with K-EXAONE 2.0 (750 billion parameters), SK Telecom with A.X K2 (688 billion parameters), and Upstage with Solar Open 2 (250 billion parameters). Each team has been equipped with approximately 768 NVIDIA B200 GPUs. The two winners will be selected by late 2026 or early 2027, and must provide at least half the inference capacity for a free AI assistant serving South Korea’s 51 million citizens.
