Michael Coates, the newly appointed Chief Information Security Officer of the Solana Foundation, has warned that AI is making crypto scams more convincing, particularly through social engineering, phishing, and voice-based impersonation. This warning does not concern a flaw in Solana’s blockchain protocol but rather how attackers target users, employees, or founders. AI enables the creation of realistic messages, convincing fake identities, voice deepfakes, and personalized pressure tactics, making scams harder to identify. Since crypto losses are irreversible, Coates advocates for systems that are secure by default rather than placing responsibility solely on users.
