SoftBank invests $200M in Gravis Robotics for autonomous construction software

SoftBank invested $200 million in Gravis Robotics, a Swiss startup spun out of ETH Zurich four years ago. This Series A round is the largest ever recorded in the construction robotics sector. The company developed the Gravis Rack, a retrofit system that adds AI-powered autonomy to existing heavy equipment from Caterpillar, Volvo and John Deere, delivering productivity gains of up to 30% while improving job site safety. While SoftBank explored a potential acquisition valued at over $500 million in July 2026, the final deal ended up as a non-acquisitive financial investment, allowing Gravis to maintain its independence. The startup has also secured UK government backing, including an $8 million CAM Pathfinder project.
