SK Hynix considers options for Chongqing facility, seeks investor for $3B China operation

SK Hynix, the world’s second-largest DRAM memory chipmaker and key supplier of high-bandwidth memory to Nvidia, is exploring strategic options for its chip assembly and testing facility in Chongqing, China. The company is considering selling a stake or bringing in an outside investor in an operation valued at approximately $3 billion. US export controls, which took effect on December 31, 2025, now prevent the company from upgrading its Chinese facilities with the latest equipment. Simultaneously, SK Hynix plans to build a $13 billion packaging facility in Cheongju, South Korea, signaling a pivot toward domestic capacity.
