Lawmakers fear that financial incentives linked to natural disasters could encourage destructive behavior, although no arson incidents connected to these prediction markets have been confirmed. If the CFTC moves to restrict certain categories of event contracts, platforms like Polymarket will face a choice between regulatory compliance and relocation.
