Samsung warned that memory chip shortages will intensify through 2027 and won’t ease until at least 2028, driven by explosive AI demand. Semiconductor operating profit reached 89.2 trillion won in the second quarter, a more-than-250-fold increase year-over-year, accounting for nearly all of the group’s total operating profit. Samsung locked in multi-year supply agreements with the five largest global data center operators, covering approximately two-thirds of its total memory output. The mobile division posted its first-ever quarterly loss of 700 billion won, as expensive memory chips drove up Galaxy device costs and cooled consumer demand.
