The Optimism Foundation has indicated it will not commit to continuing the OP buyback program beyond its first year, as monthly purchases have dropped 87% from 6.95 million tokens in March to 926,000 in April. The program, which uses up to half of Superchain revenue to buy tokens on the market, spent a total of 513.9 ETH (approximately $975,000) over the three months on record. Approximately 216 million tokens remain to be unlocked, worth about $19.7 million or 9% of the token’s current value. Retro Funding, another major demand lever, is also set at zero this year. OP traded at $0.091 on Monday, up 3.1% on the day.
