Russia’s Sberbank has received approval from the Bank of Russia to custody Bitcoin and facilitate cryptocurrency transfers. This authorization follows President Vladimir Putin signing a law regulating digital currencies in the country. Customers will be able to conduct cryptocurrency transactions through Sberbank’s existing banking platforms, including SberBank Online and SberBusiness. However, using cryptocurrencies as a means of payment remains banned in Russia since 2022.
