In August 2025, three men allegedly kidnapped a cryptocurrency holder near Novosibirsk and held him under threat of violence for a week. They are said to have forced him to provide his digital wallet credentials before receiving more than 1.3 billion rubles, worth about 14.5 million euros, in digital assets. Two of the suspects also allegedly stole 50 million rubles in cash from the victim’s apartment. The Novosibirsk regional prosecutor’s office referred the case to the Zheleznodorozhny District Court, with no convictions announced and all three men presumed innocent.
