Ripple launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit on June 10, a toolkit designed to let autonomous AI systems conduct payments on the XRP Ledger without human intervention. The tool integrates with the x402 open payment protocol, already backed by Stripe, Coinbase, and Cloudflare, enabling AI to pay for API access or model inference using XRP or the RLUSD stablecoin. The x402 protocol has processed between 75 and 120 million machine-to-machine transactions in recent months, worth tens of millions of dollars in aggregate value. XRPL offers specific technical advantages for this use case: 3 to 5-second settlement times, predictable fees, and a native decentralized exchange. Ripple has also joined Mastercard’s Agent Pay for Machines program alongside over 30 industry partners, positioning XRP and RLUSD as settlement assets for the emerging machine payments infrastructure.
