Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund, the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), is creating a dedicated entity to manage its domestic assets, effectively separating its local holdings from its international investment portfolio. The new platform will oversee major stakes including Qatar National Bank, valued at approximately $50 billion, and telecommunications group Ooredoo. The restructuring mirrors Abu Dhabi’s approach, where entities like Mubadala and ADQ handle distinct strategic mandates. CEO Mohammed Al Sowaidi has pledged approximately $500 billion in additional US market investments over the next decade. Qatar is also undergoing a massive expansion of its North Field production capacity, expected to boost LNG output by roughly 85% from pre-expansion levels.
