Polish Court Detains Fifth Suspect in Zondacrypto Exchange Probe

A Polish court has ordered the pretrial detention of Roman Z., the fifth suspect arrested in the investigation into cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto. He faces charges of organized criminal group membership and misappropriation of clients’ funds through computer fraud. Prosecutors allege the group stole at least 7.8 million zlotys, approximately $2 million, from exchange users. The platform, which had 1.3 million clients mostly from Poland, froze withdrawals in April and its new chief executive has been missing since April 16. Three other suspects were placed in pretrial detention on September 4, while the Katowice regional prosecutor’s office has received several thousand complaints.
