Hardware wallet maker Ledger and Payward, the parent company of crypto exchange Kraken, announced a partnership allowing investors to purchase tokenized stocks and store them offline on a secure physical device. This cold storage solution targets Ledger’s approximately 8 million customers who prefer self-custody, as well as traditional investors concerned about rising hacker threats in the age of AI and quantum computing. The integration works both ways: Payward’s stock-buying platform xStocks can require a signature on the Ledger device for transactions, while Ledger devices now include xStocks integration. For now, only Payward’s tokenized stocks are supported, but discussions are underway with Coinbase, Binance and Robinhood.
