PayPal beats earnings expectations, investors eye merger updates

PayPal reported strong Q2 2026 results with non-GAAP EPS of $1.38 beating the $1.28 consensus estimate, net revenue of $8.682 billion up 5% year-over-year, and total payment volume of $486.4 billion up 10%. On July 14 and 15, 2026, Stripe and Advent International jointly submitted a takeover offer at $60.50 per share, valuing PayPal at over $53 billion and pushing the stock up nearly 17%. PayPal has not yet formally responded to the offer and its board is evaluating whether the proposal represents fair value. PayPal’s PYUSD stablecoin has expanded to roughly 70 markets and offers a 4% rewards rate, while a partnership with Polygon was announced in July 2026.
