Oracle employees receive abrupt termination notices amid layoffs

On September 14, Oracle laid off thousands of employees who discovered they had been locked out of their systems before receiving a 6 a.m. email informing them their positions had been eliminated. During fiscal year 2026, ended May 31, the company cut approximately 21,000 positions, representing a 13% reduction of its global workforce, bringing headcount from roughly 162,000 to about 141,000. Oracle has allocated $700 million for restructuring expenses, covering severance packages and exit costs. The company is redirecting these savings toward AI infrastructure and cloud capacity expansion. This round of layoffs follows a recognizable pattern at Oracle, with a nearly identical process already executed in March 2026.
