OpenAI partners with Ironclad to train GPT-6 Astra on AI contracting

OpenAI and Ironclad announced on October 6, 2026 a strategic research partnership aimed at improving AI model training and evaluation on contracting workflows. The GPT-6 Astra model achieved an average score of 55.0% across 11 contracting tasks, compared to 41.6% for its predecessor GPT-5.6 Sol. The average time per task was reduced from 37.0 to 19.2 minutes, representing a 48% improvement. Jason Boehmig, co-founder of Ironclad, now leads a dedicated legal division at OpenAI, hired in 2026. With an average score of 55.0%, the model still remains far from a level suitable for unsupervised use in a professional context.
