OpenAI has hired Thomas Lind, a former White House cyber official, to lead cyber and strategic risk on its national security policy team. Lind joined the company the week of October 2, 2026, after leaving the White House Office of the National Cyber Director, where he helped craft an executive order on AI safety frameworks issued on June 2, 2026. That order established a voluntary review process for high-capability AI models. During a panel in August 2026, Lind stated that AI-driven cyber tools have significantly cut response times for policymakers. This hire aims to strengthen OpenAI’s national security credibility and connect private sector model safety work with federal efforts.
