OpenAI expands access to GPT-Rosalind for academic research

Share

OpenAI launched the Rosalind Academic Plan on October 15, 2026, offering US university biology labs up to 30 free Business Standard seats for 12 months to access GPT-Rosalind. Research data from these accounts will not be used to train models by default, addressing a major concern among academic researchers. GPT-Rosalind shows performance improvements of 53.7% on Genebench, 18.0% on Medchem Bench, and 19.6% on Labworkbench compared to existing baselines. The model first launched as a research preview on April 16, 2026, with early collaborations with Amgen and Moderna in areas including biodefense and public health. Access remains subject to organizational approval to ensure use for legitimate scientific research purposes.
