OpenAI data center deal with Nvidia comes in $145 billion lower than reported—signaling concerns of artificial demand for chips

Nvidia ultimately guaranteed up to $105 billion for OpenAI’s planned data center campus in Pike County, Ohio, after considering an initial guarantee of roughly $250 billion. This reduction, which moved through at least two known checkpoints before settling on its final amount, reflects recurring investor concerns about circular financing within the AI ecosystem. When reports of a potential $250 billion guarantee surfaced in July, Nvidia’s shares fell approximately 4.5% intraday. The campus is expected to reach computing capacity of up to 8 gigawatts, with the first 800 megawatts anticipated by 2028, while each gigawatt would require roughly $50 billion to $60 billion in total spending.
