Oil prices jump after Trump declares economic war on Iran

Oil prices surged on Thursday after President Donald Trump announced the launch of a « crushing economic operation » against Iran. The West Texas Intermediate contract for September delivery rose about 2.5%, reaching $86.58 per barrel. Brent crude’s front-month contract advanced more than 2%, to $93.81 per barrel. This increase comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
