New York has more tech workers than any other North American metro area. The city and state are investing $10 million in an institute in Long Island City, Queens, that aims to train up to 40,000 New Yorkers for artificial intelligence jobs by 2032. Between 2022 and 2025, the metro added 30,640 tech workers, bringing the total to 394,300 and overtaking the San Francisco Bay Area for the first time. The nonprofit Pursuit will design and run the institute, with public funding from several agencies and private contributions from Google.org, Wells Fargo, Con Edison and Adobe. Pursuit previously trained 420 lower-income workers through a statewide program, and its participants will receive courses, employer connections and research intended to shape workforce policy.
