Nasdaq pushes toward 23-hour trading days after SEC gives green light

Share

Nasdaq received accelerated SEC approval on April 10, 2026, to extend its trading hours from 16 to 23 hours per day, five days a week. The launch is scheduled for December 6, 2026, with a main session from 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET and an overnight session from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. ET, separated by a one-hour technical pause. This expansion follows similar approvals for NYSE and 24X Exchange, both already authorized for extended-hours trading. Implementation remains contingent on the reliability of data processing systems and DTCC clearing mechanisms, with a public roundtable scheduled for September 17, 2026, to assess operational preparations.
