Major US stock indices opened lower for the third consecutive session, pressured by rising bond yields and oil prices. The 30-year US Treasury yield reached 5.32%, its highest level since 2007, while crude oil prices climbed above $85 per barrel amid Middle East tensions. The S&P 500 fell 0.52% on August 17 to close at 7,745.06, the Dow Jones shed 272.63 points (0.51%) to 53,459.78, and the Nasdaq Composite lost 0.32% to 26,644.91. Technology stocks bore the brunt of the decline as higher discount rates diminish the present value of their anticipated future earnings.
