Muneeb Ali, co-founder of the Stacks protocol, is becoming CEO of Stacks Labs, the entity responsible for steering core protocol development and ecosystem growth. A community vote held in July 2026 delivered roughly 99% support for staking upgrades within the Stacks ecosystem. The core product is sBTC, a decentralized asset pegged to Bitcoin that allows BTC holders to participate in DeFi activities without using a centralized custodian. Ali holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Princeton University and has raised more than $200 million across his various roles and projects. Stacks Labs has around 33 employees and plans to launch a genesis bond tied to self-custodial BTC yield, slated for 2026.
