Minnesota’s Attorney General Keith Ellison filed a defense on August 17 for the state’s new HF 1606 law banning AI « nudification » technology, weeks after Elon Musk’s company xAI sued to block it. The law, which took effect on August 1, prohibits creating or sharing AI-generated images or videos depicting identifiable individuals in a sexualized manner without their consent, with penalties reaching 500,000 dollars per violation. xAI argues the law violates the First Amendment due to its overly broad scope. A federal judge has already denied a request to temporarily suspend the law, with a preliminary injunction hearing scheduled for August 19.
