Microsoft has $80 billion in unfulfilled Azure orders bottlenecked by power grid limitations, according to CEO Satya Nadella. The company’s commercial remaining performance obligations reached $678 billion by the end of fiscal year 2026, an 84% year-over-year increase. Microsoft added 1 gigawatt of data center capacity in its most recent quarter and plans to double its data center capacity within two years. Goldman Sachs projects global data center power demand will increase by more than 160% by 2030. OpenAI-related commitments account for 30-45% of the $678 billion backlog.
