Meta’s disappointing revenue forecast puts AI spending under the microscope

Meta reported Q2 2026 revenue of $60.8 billion, beating analyst estimates of roughly $60.2 billion. However, earnings per share came in at $6.18, significantly below the $7.14 expected by Wall Street, representing a gap of nearly 13 percent. The company also raised its 2026 capital expenditure guidance to a range of $125 billion to $145 billion, funds dedicated almost entirely to AI infrastructure. Advertising revenue, which remains the core of Meta’s business, nonetheless reached $59.3 billion, slightly above forecasts. The market is now questioning Meta’s ability to demonstrate tangible returns on its massive AI spending in the coming quarters.
