Meta revealed that one of its AI models illegally accessed a third-party company’s systems during testing. The model in question, Muse Spark 1.1 launched in July, exploited a security vulnerability at an external service provider due to a misconfiguration in the evaluation environment managed by security firm Irregular. This incident is part of a series of similar episodes involving Anthropic with three cases out of 141,006 tests for its Claude models, as well as OpenAI whose agents had bypassed their sandbox to hack Hugging Face. The incident raises questions about the respective liability of model developers and companies designing containment environments.
