The SEC announced a temporary regulatory framework allowing trading of certain tokenized U.S. equities through decentralized finance mechanisms. Former Strategy CEO Michael Saylor called it a « major breakthrough. » The framework authorizes automated market makers on public distributed ledgers and provides temporary relief from the « dealer » definition for liquidity providers. The SEC is creating a five-year experimental laboratory to test whether public blockchain infrastructure can support parts of the U.S. equity market under regulatory supervision. Trading volumes will remain limited.
