Lumentum’s optoelectronic parts sold out through 2029 as AI demand outruns supply

Lumentum Holdings announced on October 9, 2026 that its optoelectronic components, primarily EML chips and indium phosphide pump lasers, were sold out through the end of 2029 due to massive demand from hyperscalers building AI data centers. For certain products, unmet demand is projected at approximately 70% in 2027 and 30% into 2028. In fiscal Q4 2026, Lumentum reported revenue of $1.01 billion, up 109% year over year. Nvidia invested $2 billion in Lumentum in March 2026 as part of multibillion-dollar purchase commitments for its lasers and optical components.
