Kioxia plans new manufacturing fab in Iwate with ¥1T investment

Kioxia Holdings is investing over 1 trillion yen (approximately $6.8 billion) in a third manufacturing building at its Kitakami Plant in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, to produce next-generation 3D NAND flash memory for AI data centers. This envelope is part of a capital expenditure strategy targeting 470 billion yen per year between fiscal 2026 and fiscal 2028, representing a 66% increase from 2025 spending levels. The Japanese government supported the expansion with subsidies totaling 243 billion yen approved in 2024. The company returned to the Tokyo Stock Exchange in December 2024 after several years as a private entity.
