Justin Sun announced that Tron’s post-quantum cryptography has been deployed on testnet, with the network prepared to activate quantum resistance on mainnet at any time. The goal is to make TRON one of the few major quantum-resistant blockchains before Q-Day, the hypothetical moment when sufficiently powerful quantum computers could break current cryptographic standards. Developers worldwide are increasingly focused on post-quantum cryptography as quantum computers may eventually threaten the elliptic-curve cryptography securing Bitcoin, Ethereum and many other blockchain networks. Earlier this year, a Strategy-led consortium pledged $15 million to Bitcoin quantum security research, while the Ethereum Foundation published a proposal for migrating accounts to quantum-resistant cryptography and Algorand outlined plans for quantum-resistant accounts by 2027.
